An OLED iPad: The Day Will Come, But Probably Not Soon

We’ve been hearing about Apple introducing an OLED iPad for quite some time, but it seems the day might come soon. The Cupertino company recently unveiled the iPad Pro with the mini-LED technology, creating a gap between the Pro and other models that use Apple’s older displays. Launching an iPad with OLED display technology will undoubtedly give other iPad models like the Air a new life!

If we are to believe recent rumours, future generations of the iPad Air may get an OLED display. Also, we have certain details on the next generation of the iPad mini. Read on to know more!

Apple Next Release Plans for iPad: What the Future Holds

The iPad has proven to be a high-selling device for the company alongside iPhones, and the highest-selling tablet devices in general. Many have opted for the iPad as their primary device, ditching a computer altogether. It seems like a natural step for Apple to move towards OLED displays to keep up with the demands of Apple fans.

Earlier this year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the company is planning on introducing an OLED display with the next iPad Pro. However, Apple launched the Pro models of the iPad with a mini-LED display. That’s when the rumours started, and now there’s a leak suggesting that Apple is developing a 10.86-inch OLED display.

The leaked size fits the exact dimensions of the iPad Air, and so the speculation whether the fifth generation of the Air may feature an OLED screen has begun. However, we’re not expecting the next model of the iPad Air until 2022.

    Contradicting Launch Timelines

But don’t take this as a confirmation. As per Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Apple will enter the OLED display tablet market in 2023 and not 2022. Of course, a rumour’s a rumour, and nothing’s confirmed until Apple chooses to let us in on the secret, but this might just mean we’ll have to wait quite a while for an OLED iPad. DSCC’s CEO has a 100% track record on AppleTrack, so we’re inclined to believe it.

Until Then, What’s Up With the Next iPad mini?

Don’t worry, we’re not leaving you without any good news. Apple might be finally launching the next iPad this fall. Following in the footsteps of the iPad Air 4, we’re expecting a massive redesign with the next mini. As seen on the iPad Air 4, the next iPad mini could get an edge-to-edge screen and Apple’s latest flat-screen design philosophy similar to what’s expected to come in the upcoming MacBook Pro models.

The Cupertino company last updated the iPad mini in 2019, and it looks like Apple plans to revive the small tablet. The current generation of the iPad mini has the A12 Bionic processor, and rumours have us expecting the next-generation model to get the powerful A15 chipset. Also, a mini Apple Pencil might be on the cards, as per rumours by leaker Jon Prosser, along with a USB-C port and Touch ID embedded in the power button.
