A Top Secret Team Might Be Working on Apple Satellites

Phones, computers, laptops, earphones, streaming services, and now … satellites. Yup, you heard me right. Apple’s apparently got a secret team working to make Apple satellites a reality and beam data directly to Apple devices. If this project turns out to be a success, we’ll get access to internet services straight from these satellites!

    According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman:

The Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker has about a dozen engineers from the aerospace, satellite, and antenna design industries working on the project with the goal of deploying their results within five years said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing internal company efforts. Work on the project is still early and could be abandoned, the people said, and a clear direction and use for satellites haven’t been finalized.

Rumours say that this might be Apple looking for a way to bypass wireless network providers like Jio and Airtel or enable data exchange between devices without such carriers. This could also be the tech giant’s effort to improve location tracking and maps features, among others.

Of course, Apple has competitors in the space area, such as Amazon and SpaceX, who’re all looking into deploying their own satellites into space, but Apple’s efforts seem to be more focused on using the satellite data to enhance the user experience of their current devices instead of creating a brand new satellite-based service or product.

No one’s sure if Apple’s planning to actually send satellites into space or make use of the ones already there. But I, for one, am pretty hyped about this news. Perhaps this will save us from ridiculous international roaming charges? Or this might be a way to stop network carriers from tracking our activity 24/7? Whatever it is, I can’t wait to find out what Apple has in store for us. And I’m keeping my eyes and ears open for all the news, gossip, and rumours I can get on this issue. That’s my job after all, right?
