Apple’s lead in the wearables game was highlighted by the latest report showing that there were 10.4 million Apple Watches among 16.2 million werable devices shipped in the Q4 2018. The Cupertino-based company currently offers Apple Watch Series 3, Apple watch Series 4, Apple Watch Hermès and Apple Watch Nike+ in the market.

By the fourth quarter of 2018, the worldwide market of wearable gadgets grew 31.4%, striking a new high of 59.3 units. Apple wearable holds the first position in the tally with 27.4% market share. And the distant second is Chinese brand, Xiaomi with 12.6% market.

Xiaomi’s Mi Band 3 alone, however, accounts for 30% share and of all the digital wrist band shipped the fourth quarter.

    The Top 5 Smart Watches

It is not only the last quarter, but 2018 was also the year when people went crazy about wearable gadgets. Smartwatches grew in demand by 54.3% accounting for 29.8% of all wearable device shipped in the last year. Among the top five brands, Apple stands at the top of the podium with a 26.8% market share due to the soaring popularity of Apple Watch. Xiaomi holds the second place but with a 13.5% share.

In the third position, we have another Chinese brand, Huawei. It’s market grew by 43% during the quarter in an otherwise declining market. Since most of the Huawei and Honor phones are bundled with at least one wearable, the band saw a staggering 248.5% growth. The aggressively marketed FitBit came in at the fourth position in the previous year. And finally, in the fifth position by the end of the year, we have Samsung.

Apart from the wrist band, the year of 2018 also saw a growth of 66.4% of the market of ear-worn devices. The market and its top players are excited about this substantial growth and expect this to continue in the years to come. So, let’s keep ‘watch’ing the progress.
