Instagram iPhone App Taking Up Too Much Space? Here’s What To Do

    Spread the word

Instagram is (objectively) LIT. It’s the one place that lets you stalk your ex’s new arm candy without judgments, see what your friends are up to while you cancel the plans and stay in bed, and allows you to wallow in self-pity every time you scroll through a celebrity’s feed. Mind-blowing, right? Well, now you know why.

400 million people are crazy about it! Even the grannies/oldies love it!

So it’s official, we’re all hooked to Instagram. And while you may not have noticed, this magical social media island is slowly but surely taking over our lives and our phones.

How did I figure it out? Well, it all started when I opened my insta for the 20th time (in one hour), and that’s when it hit me. Constant use of the app was crushing my battery and demolishing my data plan. And that’s still something that I can live with.

But things got personal when the app went after my camera roll and storage space. It looked like the clutter monster crashed my camera roll!

So, I did what an expert like me would do. I Googled! And let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed.

So, here I am, armed with my nifty quick fixes to keep your ‘gramming’ from ruining your iPhone’s camera roll. And no there’s no cure for the FOMO that comes every time you scroll through your friend’s exotic vacay feed or the Shame! Shame! Shame! of accidentally liking a 187-week old picture in your crush’s profile. But I do promise to help you reduce the stress of having to clean up your camera roll by manually deleting images. Unless you prefer to do manual labor? No? Thought so!

So, buckle up folks, it’s time for some spring-cleaning.

Now, here’s what you need to know. Every time you click a picture using Insta, by default, your beloved social media will save those pictures in your camera roll. How do we stop this preposterous behavior? Follow the steps

    • Open Instagram on your iPhone
    • Tap on your profile icon.
    • Click the ‘Options‘ button on the top right corner
    • Go to Settings >Account > Original Photos
    • Then flip ‘Save Original Photos‘ to off.

As you can see, there’s no in between. With Apple it has always been all or nothing. So, going forward, if you’re clicking something you might want to keep forever, use your phone’s native camera and upload it from there. It’ll be of higher quality and won’t hog more space. And when you’re in the mood for a random click, use Instagram on your iPhone. That’s it for now. Hopefully, this will be enough to stop the clutter monster from attacking your camera roll
