If you play in the big boys/girls league of premium smartphones, you’ll probably love this edition of comparing iPhone with other premium smartphone brands. Behold the iPhone XR Vs OnePlus 7 Pro comparison. Now while my loyalties soundly with the iPhones, I couldn’t help but argue out the case for both the smartphones.

So, without further ado, let’s get into into the OnePlus 7 Pro Vs iPhone XR roundup.

Judging the Book by its Cover – Design

When it comes to design, the OnePlus 7 Pro has an aesthetic advantage over the XR. An edge to edge display with no bezels or notch means that it has a cleaner look and larger screen than the XR. And it’s not just iPhones that have been left in the dust by the OnePlus flagship. Samsung too has taken a hit as their revolutionary punch hole camera has now been trumped by the pop-up camera of the OnePlus 7 Pro that leaves its screen absolutely uninterrupted.

And moving from the front to the back, OnePlus has outdone itself by giving us three gorgeous derrières. While it only comes in three colours as compared to the iPhone XR’s extensive range of six shades, these colours are lovely. The sleek body subtly changes colours with the movement of the light reflected on it. Talk about a popping highlight!

Make wise, both phones come with an aluminium chassis sandwiched safely between gorilla panels on both the front and back. But, while the OnePlus boasts of being waterproof, the iPhone’s dust and water resistance are backed by an IP67 certification.

If You’ve Got it, Flaunt it – Display

Well, whether or not we admit it, size does matter. And in this section, the OnePlus once again takes the cake with a 6.7 – inch display as compared to the XR’s 6.1 – inch. But as impressive as the size is, the technique is what seals the deal, and here OnePlus’s Fluid AMOLED display lords over the XR’s Liquid Retina LCD. And don’t get me wrong, the XR’s LCD display with a resolution higher than 720p is one of the best in the game, but the OnePlus is playing in a different league altogether. It’s OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate makes for a smooth as butter user experience with amazing colours, viewing angles and contrast. Basically, with the OnePlus 7 Pro, you can have your cake and eat it too!

Slow and Steady Won’t Win This Race – Chipset

Finally, an aspect where the iPhone XR wears the crown! With its A12 Bionic chipset, it can leave the OnePlus 7 Pro’s Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset gasping for breath…literally. But this doesn’t mean that the Snapdragon isn’t up to the job, because the truth is far from it. Being the fastest chipset in the Android universe, it can shoulder Herculean loads without showing any signs of lag. And couple this with the 7 Pro’s UFS 3.0 NAND and you’ve got a deadly combo in your hands.

But, as amazing as it may be, no Android chipset can hold up a candle to the A12 Bionic which is without exaggeration at least a generation or two ahead of the Snapdragon 855.

Horns You can RAM with – Storage and RAM

So, going back to awkwardly fangirling about the OnePlus flagship, when it comes to the RAM, the XR doesn’t so much as pose a competition to the 7 Pro. Even the base model of the 7 Pro comes with double the RAM of the XR which comes with a 3 GB RAM regardless of the model. The 7 Pro, on the other hand, starts at a 6GB RAM and goes up to a gigantic 128GB!

As for the storage, here too the OnePlus remains undefeated. It starts with a 128GB storage going up to 256GB, while the XR starts at 64GB and finishes at 128GB.

But First, Let Me Take a Selfie – Camera

When it comes to the camera, iPhone XR vs OnePlus 7 Pro does not have a clear winner. But one thing’s for sure, either would capture any party beautifully. The iPhone XR does what iPhones do best with a 12MP camera that takes low-light photos and videos with clarity that outdoes the OnePlus every time. But what the 7 Pro lacks in clarity, it makes up for with its ultra-wide angle sensor that gives a whole new perspective to photos. And if you don’t want wide shots, you can zoom in with its 3x optical zoom. This’ll capture anything from the wings of a fly (wanted style) to the condensation on a drink with the utmost clarity.

    Connections Matter – Connectivity

If you’re one of those people who still believe in talking on the phone (do you still exist?), you’ll probably care about this point. But even for those of us whose voices shake on call, this matters, cause hey, data is needed when Wi-Fi isn’t an option. So, in this one too, the OnePlus wins the race with their Gigabit LTE, which means that it can get a way better signal than the XR.

    Password, Please – Biometrics

So, while Apple ultimately did away with the fingerprint sensor after being unable to incorporate it into their display after killing their home button, OnePlus was busy making the dream work. The 7 Pro comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor in comparison to the XR’s Face ID. Here, both have a pro and a con. The XR wins in terms of being more secure, while the 7 Pro takes the speed and efficiency round.

    Scroll All Night – Battery

When it comes to the battery, the OnePlus comes with a stronger battery than the iPhone with a 4000mAh battery as compared to the XR’s 2658 mAh battery. However, when paired with its 90Hz display, the 7 Pro’s battery doesn’t last as long as it would with say a 60Hz display. So, in that sense, the battery life for both phones pans out similarly.

But when it comes to the charger, the OnePlus smokes the iPhone XR. It comes with a 30W warp charger that can take the phone from 0-50 pc in a matter of 30 minutes. The XR, on the other hand, takes an hour to charge to 50 pc when using the 5W charger that comes in the box.

    It’s a Rich Man’s World – Pricing

The OnePlus 7 Pro starts at Rs 48,999 for the base model, and you can buy it from the comforts of your home right here. Pretty steep compared to its predecessor in the OnePlus universe, but still cheap compared to the iPhone XR.  The junior most of the 2019 iPhone lineup, the XR comes with a price tag of Rs 76,900. But you can get it at a discounted rate of Rs 59,900 here.

    The Final Verdict

And such is the ending of the iPhone XR and OnePlus 7 Pro comparison. I’ve laid bare both sides of the coin, and now, it’s really your choice which phone you want to throw your coin at. As much as I love the XR and the complete integrated Apple ecosystem, there’s no denying that the OnePlus 7 Pro is a beautiful piece of technology. So, the ultimate question that everything boils down to – iPhone XR or OnePlus 7 Pro! Let us know what camp you choose to stay in – will you stay loyal to the iPhone XR or opt for the OnePlus 7 Pro instead?
