Missed out on last week’s news? No biggie, we’ve got your back! Applesutra’s launching a new weekly recap series, posted every Monday, to help you catch up to all the latest Apple news and updates.

Without any further ado, here’s everything you need to know about Apple last week.

Apple Launches the MagSafe Battery Pack

Apple finally launched the much-awaited MagSafe battery pack last week, compatible with all the iPhone 12 models. It’s listed for ₹10,900 on the Apple India Online Store, but is unfortunately currently unavailable.

Stay tuned for updates on when Indian users can finally get their hands on one.

iOS 15 Beta 3 Is Now Available

The latest beta version for iOS 15 is out for public testers, so update your phone now if you’re testing out the iOS 15 beta! Here’s what’s new in the new beta:

    • Tweaks to Safari’s redesign, with the address bar now attached to your keyboard, besides other updates.
    • New splash screens for App Store, Reminders, Notifications, and more.
    • Updated Focus settings, including Mindfulness settings compatible with the watchOS 8 Mindfulness app.
    • Redesigned reset and transfer to new iPhone options in Settings.
    • Updated music widget.
    • And so much more!

If you want to try out the iOS 15 beta yourself but aren’t sure how, here’s something that should help. Besides iOS, Apple also released third beta versions of iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, tvOS 15, and macOS Monterey.

iMessage Isn’t a Social Media Intermediary

The government withdrew its letter to Apple regarding compliance of iMessage with the new IT rules. Under the new rules, social media intermediaries must appoint local compliance officers and publish reports detailing takedowns and complaints. I know some other social media and messaging apps who’d like to be in this position!

Google Introduces Privacy Tools for iOS Users (Finally!)

Google is famously resistant to Apple’s push towards privacy and transparency. Still, they’ve launched a couple of new privacy tools that users with shared devices will like.

Users who have the Google app downloaded on their iPhones can now protect their search history with a password or two-factor authentication. They also announced “quick delete”, which lets you wipe out the last 15 minutes of activity with a button. It’s not much, but it’s a step, I suppose.

The features are currently only available on the iOS app, expected to launch on Android later this year.

Does the iPhone Weather App Really Not Display 69℉?

Users pointed out that the iPhone Weather app on particular iOS versions seems to round off 69℉ to 70℉, for some reason. As pointed out by other users, it could be because Apple sources its data in Celcius to convert to Fahrenheit. A majority of the internet, of course, is tickled by the idea that the company might want to avoid the innuendo-riddled number.

    Apple’s Week in Rumours

What are we looking at in the future? Here are some recent leaks and rumours to get you going.

    • We might be getting a refreshed iPad mini this fall, with design updates such as thinner bezels and removing the Home button.
    • Redesigned M1X-powered MacBook Pro models may be set to release by November, featuring SD card slots, 1080p web cameras, and more.
    • iPhone 13 may feature an always-on display mode similar to the Apple Watch.
    • In-display touch ID in iPhone 13? Probably not, rumours say.
    • A larger M1 iMac might be in the works.
