Hey Siri, I have a question for Team Applesutra

Thank You We’ll get back to you faster that you can say iPhone 12 Pro Max!

New MacBook Pro Prices Cross Rs. 2 Lacs in India. Old Mac Prices Also Increased.

    Spread the word

When Apple announced the new MacBook Pro at a 500 USD price increase in the US, we started to wonder just how high the prices will go in India. Well, the pricing is out and it’s much worse than we imagined. So read on if you dare …

The basic, non-Touch Bar model is whopping 1.30 lacs. In other words, you sell your kidney and don’t even get the coolest new feature in return. 🙁

The 13 inch Touch Bar model is priced at 1.56 lacs, and its higher-end variant will cost Rs.10,000 extra – bringing the total up to Rs.1,66,900. For this, you may choose among your other less important organs. No, don’t go for the brain, it wouldn’t fetch you much. #satyavachan

Finally, the 15-inch model starts (yes, starts) at Rs.205,900!

*Jaw drops, hits the floor, bounces back, drops again*

This will burn a hole so deep in my pocket that I can crawl into it and hide from my parents who’re baying for my blood after they heard my desire to own this laptop. I think I will just hibernate through the winter.

What’s so great about the new MacBook Pros?

The biggest highlight of these laptops is the Touch Bar. Basically, the function keys have been replaced with a digital bar that changes functions based on the app you are using. It’s touch-enabled and has a cool, colourful interface.

There is an all new ForceTouch Track Pad, which is 2 times larger and it also comes with a glass surface which is capacitive in nature and it has its own haptic engine. The other exciting and new feature is that the keyboard is loaded with a new ‘butterfly mechanism’.

In terms of size, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is 23% smaller in volume and the weight is actually half a pound less than the previous model. The 15-inch MacBook Pro is also around 14% thinner and 20% smaller in volume. These MacBooks are smaller and lighter than the MacBook Air.

Fancy as these features might be, I am not sure they’re worth shelling out upwards of two lac Rupees.

Any price drop on the old models?

    We wish!

On the contrary, Apple, in a sneaky way increased the prices of  the old MacBook lineup in India … by almost 10,000 rupees!!

This change happened just last week, and Apple India’s new website has now changed the prices to reflect the new prices. Here’s how the complete Mac range is priced now:

Now, if you were prepared to sell one of your kidneys to buy a 12-inch MacBook, you should know that it now costs Rs.112,900. So be prepared to part with one eyeball and three of your fingers.

This price hike on old models is bewildering as Apple has not changed the US prices. Besides, they just hiked the price of the Mac lineup in October last year. This double whammy does come across as a bit extreme. And inhumane. Why, Apple, why?
