Hey Siri, I have a question for Team Applesutra

Thank You We’ll get back to you faster that you can say iPhone 12 Pro Max!

RIP Non-Retina MacBook Pro. You’ll Be Missed.

    Spread the word

You guys got so caught up in all the hype for iOS 10 and so buried in all the rumours of iPhone 7, that you completely missed the farewell of one of the most successful Apple devices of all time — the classic non-Retina MacBook.

That’s right, Apple is going to pull the curtains on the much loved MacBook.

AppleInsider has discovered that some of the Apple Stores in the US have stopped displaying the 13-inch MacBooks. On investigating, they found that many other stores from across the US were doing the same. It could only mean that Apple has specifically asked them to do so.

We believe that Apple is doing it as the first step to gradually phasing out the entire line-up. The Retina MacBooks have been hogging all the limelight since their launch, so much so that their poor non-retina cousins don’t even get an honorary mention these days. In fact, so determined is Apple to push this model out of sight that it doesn’t feature on their MacBook Pro web page anymore!

It shouldn’t have come as a surprise to us, really, because that’s what happens with every other product — new shiny, faster variations come out and the older ones are forgotten. And yet, we can’t help but feel a little bit nostalgic about those classic devices that were once the apple of our eye. (Lol, get it? #Sorry)

The end of an era …

Our entire team at AppleSutra owns one of these babies. And, although years have gone by since we bought them, we still love and cherish these devices. We fondly think back to the time when held them in our hands for the first time. Even now, our heart skips a beat if we spill water within 6 feet of the Macbook and we reach for our cleaning brushes when food crumbs fall onto the keyboard.

For us, it is definitely the end of an era. And we’ll sorely miss our beloved, trusted laptops.

Why this was our favourite Macbook

You must be wondering why are are talking so fondly of a five year old Macbook model. Well, we already answered this question in a post almost a year ago. Here are the reasons why the Non-Retina Macbook Pro was the best Macbook in the market.

The non-Retina MacBook was the last Mac device from Apple to have an optical drive. Yup, that MacBook is literally from the age of CDs and DVDs. That puts it somewhere in the vicinity of the Jurassic period. And yet we love it.
