Battery life is the biggest concern of every smartphone user today. With the whole world fighting tooth and nail to fit into your palm, the poor battery within your phone is the one that ends up paying the price.
This eternal craving for power led to power banks and battery packs flooding the market. Apple themselves have launched a pretty ugly average looking cover/battery pack for the iPhone. It’s safe to say that thing is not the best product to have stepped off Apple’s assembly line.
Now, however, Apple looks determined to set matters straight. How? Two words: wireless charging.
There are a lot of wireless charging options for Android phones in the market already, the most prominent of them coming from Samsung.
But that still restricts your charging sources to one single point. All it is doing is eliminating the need to physically plug in the phone. Otherwise, it’s still the same as traditional charging.
Apple, on the other hand, wants to remove that obstacle altogether. Rumour is that it’s building a new wireless charging technology that wouldn’t require any direct contact with the charging unit.
“Apple is exploring cutting-edge technologies that would allow iPhones and iPads to be powered from further away than the charging mats used with current smartphones,” reports Bloomberg.
Although the technology might seem hyper-modern, the idea behind it has been around for quite some time now. Just last month, Ossia displayed the “Cota Transmitter Technology” that brings true wireless charging to iPhones.
The technology charges your phone wirelessly from a base station. It’s like wi-fi. If you are within the range of the base station, your phone will be charging.
Apple is working on a similar technology. However, transmitting power over the air is way more difficult than transferring data. So it’s not an easy challenge to overcome. However, if there’s one company we can bank on to work wonders, it would be Apple, right?
Ossia is claiming to make the technology public by the end of 2016. We wouldn’t expect Apple to be just as furteela; we do hope that it happens sooner than later. Wouldn’t it just be a hoot to just enter your home (or office) and have your phone start charging even as it keeps sitting in your pocket. Wicked!!
