Apple vs Samsung: Who’s Winning India’s Tablet Wars?

    Spread the word

India’s tablet market has grown modestly by about 2% in the year 2025 as opposed to 2024. A clear trend is emerging toward premium devices, particularly in the ₹30,000–₹40,000 price segment, where consumer demand is rising sharply. Leading the charge are the usual heroes—or should we say rivals—Apple and Samsung, each battling for supremacy in the premium tablet space (although one is very clearly in the lead, and no it’s not the one that we are backing).

Let’s take a deeper look at what the reports are saying about the sales of Samsung tablets and Apple’s iPads.

    Samsung Remains Market Leader

Samsung has managed to increase its tablet shipments by roughly 15% in 2025, securing the top spot with around 31% market share. This success comes from offering a broad portfolio that appeals to both mid-range and premium buyers, including models like the Galaxy Tab A9/A11 for mid-range users and the Galaxy Tab S series for premium users. It looks like their strategy for the mid-range segment is: more is more and it is working for sure.

To be fair, it is hardly a surprise that Samsung is at the top of the list, because well, they have been dominating the market since forever. They are kinda like the Titanic where the poor got to share spaces with the rich. But that’s only as far as the analogy goes—clearly this ship is not sinking!

    Apple Holds Second Place

Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe (aka Virus) once said that, “Nobody remembers the man who ever came second.” But does that apply to multi-trillion dollar companies as well? I’m not so sure!

Apple’s iPads come in second in the tablet market race with an estimated 20% market share, although the shipments have declined slightly by about 2%.

The 2025 iPad, particularly the 128 GB Wi-Fi model, drove major sales in the ₹30,000–₹40,000 segment, which is an insane pricing by Apple considering their standard iPhones cost more than this—so it makes sense why it would sell a lot. Additionally, Apple’s high-end iPad Pro models also contributed to growth in the premium tablet category and the larger market share, despite the overall dip in shipments.

What Does Any Of This Mean?

The Indian tablet market is clearly expanding and there’s basically no plot twist to this. It is the usual tech-giants who sell more than any others—who are selling more than any others. Currently, Samsung is at the forefront of the endeavour but Apple is also not too far behind despite its largely premium pricing.
So, will Samsung continue its streak this year as well or will Apple’s iPads finally close the gap? Or will the global memory shortage cause some damage to both? That we will just have to wait and see!
