Which iOS App Do You Think Is The Crowd Favourite?

Guess which is the most downloaded iOS App? WhatsApp? No. Netflix? Surprisingly, the answer is a big fat no again. It’s got to be Snapchat then! Nope, not even close.

Apple fanboys and fangirls, dying to know which app it is? Lo and behold, TikTok was the most downloaded iOS app for the fifth consecutive quarter. No wonder you’ve been seeing all kinds of (shitty) TikTok videos on Instagram. This is according to the survey of analytics company Sensor Tower. And across both Google and iOS Apps Tik Tok relegated at third position, behind WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. (What’s wrong with people? Tik Tok? Really?)

As per the report, TikTok saw more than 33 million App Store downloads during Q1. It was followed by YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger to round out the top five. Also, the report says a significant percentage of Tik Tok downloads were on an iPad.

So, this means on the top three ranks, we have TikTok, YouTube, and Netflix.

However, Tik Tok may not be able to maintain its most downloaded app position in Q2. In April, the Indian government imposed a ban on the app over illegal content, including pornography. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology requested Apple to remove TikTok from the App Store in India. It made a similar request to Google regarding the app’s availability on the Play Store. While the ban was lifted later that month, the app lost at least 15 million downloads. If not the ban, the month could have been its biggest-ever month.

Those who think Tik Tok is the platform to showcase creativity were super happy.

A surprising yet interesting point in the report was that Twitter did well, despite its 16th ranking. With 11.7 million App Store downloads, it saw its biggest quarter in terms of downloads since Q1 2015 — and a year-over-year increase of 3.6%. Of course, these numbers won’t necessarily translate to an increase in active users.

For Android users, the top downloaded apps are WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. Here too Tik Tok makes among the top three positions. Seriously, what’s wrong with people?
