Apple has kicked off the 2026 products season with the launch of second-generation AirTag. This launch comes nearly five years after the debut of the first-generation AirTag. While the new model looks almost identical to the original, there are quite a few feature upgrades to take note of.

Longer and Better Range: The latest AirTag features Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, making it easier to find. With enhanced haptic, visual, and audio cues, Precision Finding covers up to 50% more distance than before.

Loud and Louder: The new AirTag now comes with speakers that are 50% louder than the previous generation, making lost items easier to find.

Track em on your Wrist: The second-generation AirTag brings Precision Finding to your Apple Watch for the first time. It works with

    • Apple Watch Series 9 and later and
    • Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later

Beyond the major changes, Apple also decided to increase the weight by seven percent! And honestly saying, if this was not mentioned, no one would have noticed.

Additionally, Apple has used an updated Bluetooth version with increased range, which expands the distance at which the latest AirTags can be located.

While it’s difficult to tell the first and second gen AirTags part at the first glance, one detail that helps distinguish the two models is the engraving on the back. On the new AirTag, features like IP67 water, dust resistance, and NFC Find My support have been mentioned at the back side, which weren’t there on first-generation models. Also, the optional engraving – available only when ordering online from Apple’s website – now appears in all caps.

Finally, an important heads up, in case you are looking to get the new AirTags – make sure that your iPhone is updated to iOS 26.2.1.

You can order second-generation AirTag from the official Apple website or the Apple Store app. A single AirTag will cost ₹3,790 while a four-pack costs ₹12,900. It will also be available later this week at Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Resellers.
