Apple Campus 2 is Nearing Completion

In all the excitement surrounding the upcoming iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro, we’ve been totally ignoring one of the biggest projects that Apple has ever undertaken: the humongous Apple Campus 2!

Growing faster than the wily garden weed, the Apple Campus 2 is nearing completion. Apple wants to move into the new building in January next year, so it gives the folks at Cupertino just about 6 months to put in the finishing touches and move all their stuff.

However, putting “finishing touches” on the building is no mean task. Nicknamed The Spaceship, the new campus is a huge, huge, HUGE building. Just how large it is, is best explained by this infographic painstakingly made by The MacObserver.

The huge black circle is the Apple Campus 2.
The pentagonal blue overlay is … yeah, the Pentagon.
The grey thingy is the freaking Empire State Building

And Apple Campus 2 is BIGGER than both! Well, almost bigger, cos the spindly bit of Empire State Building is sticking out. But still, who cares. Apple Campus 2 is able to accommodate the Pentagon and the Empire State Building (almost) in it. The size is simply mind boggling!

Watch the construction site in Hi-Def, shot by a flying drone!

As you can see in the video, the campus is an all encompassing city in itself. From entertainment centres to exercise facilities to amphitheatres and medical facilities, every imaginable service placed at the beck and call of the residents. 24×7.

Apart from this, Apple has made sure that the building is green. No, not painted green; it is eco-friendly. The entire building is covered in solar panels which will generate 16 Megawatt of power. Add to that the 4 Megawatt generated by fuel cells, and Apple is looking at a completely self-sustained building. The green initiative is going to extend to Apple planting over 7000 trees around the Spaceship.

Like we said before, Apple wants to make the new campus functional before 2017 and we’re damn kicked about the entire project. Yeah, yeah, it’s not like AppleSutra is going to shift base to The Spaceship,  but we can’t help but feel excited. It is a phenomenal project, not to mention an ambitious one. And it’s about to be completed. That’s cause for celebration!
