Apple has significantly expanded the reach of its Apple Sports app yesterday, making it available in more than 90 new countries and regions, including India. With this latest rollout, the free iPhone app is now accessible in over 170 markets worldwide.
Originally launched to provide fast and easy access to live scores, statistics, standings, and schedules, Apple Sports has quickly become a popular destination for sports fans. The app delivers real-time updates across a wide range of sports, including football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and Formula 1, while offering a clean and personalised interface designed specifically for iPhone users. Unfortunately for us Indians, the list of sports does not include cricket. (Yet!)
To no one’s surprise though, the expansion comes at a carefully calculated time: just ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 as excitement is building up among fans around the world.
To enhance the World Cup experience, Apple Sports now includes a Tournament Bracket View, a clean and scrollable layout that allows users to track matchups and follow a team’s journey from the group stage to the final.
Another key addition is Visual Formations, which displays interactive team lineups and formations before matches, offering fans deeper tactical insight into each game. Apple has also introduced One Tap to Apple News, enabling users to quickly access editorial coverage, headlines, and tournament-related stories directly from the app.
The move reflects Apple’s growing investment in sports content and enhancing that viewing experience for users. By expanding Apple Sports to regions across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and beyond, the company is positioning itself as a major player in the global sports technology market.
