Buyers Beware: A Price Hike is Coming for iPhone 17 Series

    Spread the word

There are two kinds of people in the world. The first are the ones who proudly walk out of an Apple Store with the latest, most expensive iPhone on launch day, wearing their purchase like a badge of honor (in other words, rich peeps). The second are the ones (aka the middle class) who wait for festive sales, exchange offers, or simply hold out until the next iPhone arrives so they can snag last year’s flagship at a friendlier price. However, putting a damper on all plans of the latter, Apple’s iPhone 17 series could soon become even more expensive in India. So much for waiting for a better deal!

According to recent reports, Apple is expected to increase the price of the iPhone 17 series in India starting from August, with the standard iPhone 17 tipped to see a hike of as much as ₹12,000, which would make its market price a staggering ₹94,990. The Pro and Pro Max models are also expected to undergo similar, wallet-shattering hikes.

While the company has not officially confirmed the move, reports indicate that Apple’s retail inventory is thinning out, hinting that distributors may be preparing for a fresh batch of devices at revised prices.

The rumoured price revision comes shortly after Apple increased the prices of several of its other products, including select Mac and iPad models. Additionally, they have already increased the iPhone prices in Japan by almost 12%, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they do so in India as well.

Industry watchers believe that memory shortage and consequent rising production costs are the major factors driving the expected increase.

For buyers who were planning to wait a little longer in hopes of better deals, the reports may be disappointing. If the price hike materialises, even festive sale discounts may not offset the higher starting price, making these devices significantly more expensive than their launch prices.

That said, the reports remain speculative for now. Until Apple makes an official announcement, prospective buyers may want to keep an eye on pricing developments before making a purchase decision. If the rumours turn out to be true, the cost of owning Apple’s top-tier iPhones could soon become even steeper.
