Macs & iPhones Cost More In India Than Other Asian Countries

According to latest statistics, India spends way more than their Asian brethren for iPhones and Macs.

That kinda sucks! The data comes from Linio Technology, a Latin American e-commerce company. It’s a detailed report about consumer electronics and price points from nearly six dozen countries.

For 71 countries, we researched average prices of fourteen different popular devices, both iOS and Windows powered. Our list was then ranked by the sum of the total tech price for each country. Doing so, we quickly realised the huge influence of tariffs, taxes, and inflation on price.

It really does upset us to know that we pay more than the others. “If Apple Inc is serious about India as a market, then it is not evident in its product pricing,” declares Quartz. And we agree completely. Take a look at this chart:

As can be seen clearly, India is way down towards the bottom of the list, and we’re shelling out more than 1.5 times of what our neighbours in Pakistan are paying! Even the price of iPhone 7 is higher than what it would cost in other Asian countries.
What is the rationale behind this pricing policy? Why the unequal treatment? Why are iPhones and Macs sold in India more expensive than the models sold in other Asian countries? How is Apple justifying this? Do they have to pay more overhead costs in India? Why are we being ripped off like this?
    So many questions!!
It is true that India has very stringent economic policies and the duties and taxes levied on foreign products do buff up the price considerably. But even that doesn’t justify the exorbitant price gap.
India is an extremely price sensitive market, more so than others. At the same time, it is also an important market for Apple. So, why, we wonder, is Apple screwing over the people on whose purses its future depends?

It is high time that Apple started giving Indian buyers a better deal on iPhones and Macs. In fact, we’d like to see the entire Apple product lineup losing it’s steep price tag. But for now, let’s start with iPhones and Macs that we can truly afford become cheaper.
