Tesla has decided that it will enter the music streaming industry, and it’s taking the fight straight to Apple!

According to new reports, Tesla is looking to start music streaming services of its own. For long it was speculated that Tesla might tie up with the like of Spotify or Pandora to provide music services in its cars, but it no one had really considered the possibility that it might launch its own platform. And yet, that’s exactly what Tesla is doing.

“Tesla is talking to the music labels about creating its own streaming service,” reports Re/code.

Of course, Tesla will be using its hugely popular cars to enter the market on the run. The integration of the streaming service wouldn’t be much of a hassle for Tesla as their cars already come equipped with a huge touchscreen device and a high-speed internet connectivity.

    The report continues:

“Music industry sources say the carmaker has had talks with all of the major labels about licensing a proprietary music service that would come bundled with its cars, which already come equipped with a high-tech dashboard and internet connectivity.”

And if you’re thinking that Tesla will have a tough time penetrating the market, think again! Tesla has so far sold more than 100,000 cars. More importantly, it has already taken nearly 400,000 pre-orders for the Model 3 — cars its scheduled to deliver by the coming summer. That’s half-a-million ready-made customers. Tell me one company that opened with half a mil subscribers! So music streaming companies are more than happy to collaborate with Tesla.

A Tesla spokesperson was quoted as saying —

“We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose. Our goal is to simply achieve maximum happiness for our customers.”

How will Apple react to it? No one is sure, really. Apple Music is doing very well. While it’s not nearly as popular as Spotify (50 million paid subscribers), it still boasts of more than 20 million users, and that makes it one of the top music streaming services in the world.

So yeah, Tesla will have to fight really hard to even trouble Apple. But Apple is certainly not going to take it lying low. Time to bring out the Apple Car, Mr Cook!!
