Taking your phone out every time you get a WhatsApp notification isn’t exactly the most convenient thing in the world. If you’re someone who has a million unopened messages and couldn’t care less, then this won’t move the needle for you. But if you’re anything like me—someone who has to open a text the second that familiar “ping” goes off—then there is some very good news for you.
WhatsApp has finally rolled out its official companion app for Apple’s smartwatch. After weeks of beta testing, it’s now available for iPhone users with compatible Apple Watch models. That’s right—no more missing messages while your phone’s in your pocket (or across the room).
With WhatsApp for Apple Watch, you can now receive new message alerts, see who’s calling, and even react to messages with emojis, all from your wrist. WhatsApp on Apple Watch lets you read full messages (even the long ones), view images and stickers clearly, and scroll through more of your chat history than before.
And yes, you can record and send voice notes right from your watch—a neat addition for quick replies on the go.
While WhatsApp calls (voice and video) aren’t supported yet, the app covers most of the essentials. To use it, you’ll need an Apple Watch Series 4 or a later model running on watchOS 10 or above.
As always, privacy remains a top priority: all personal messages and calls on Apple Watch are protected with end-to-end encryption.
So whether you’re a casual user or a proud member of WhatsApp University, you now have greater access and convenience than ever before, all without lifting your iPhone.
It’s taken WhatsApp (and Meta) a surprisingly long time to make this happen, but now that they have finally launched WhatsApp for Apple Watch, the experience feels natural and seamless—the kind of integration users had been waiting for.
