Apple Product-Line Shake Up: A Lot Has Changed!

It is a fact that Apple’s announcement of a new iPhone model is usually followed by a decrease in the price of the previous models and this year was no exception. The prices of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were slashed right after the launch of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Apart from that, there has been an overall reworking of Apple product-line.

    iPhone

The price for iPhone 5S 64 GB is reduced. So if you wanted to own a previous model, this is the right time. However, the price of the 16 GB model of iPhone SE remains the same. Meanwhile, Apple has discontinued iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. These models are no longer listed on the company’s website. However, they’ll continue to be sold, perhaps until the stock lasts.

The two new models of iPhone 6s — 32 GB and 128 GB will be available in India from Rs. 36,000 and Rs. 43000 respectively. The prices for the same models of the iPhone 6s Plus will be starting from around Rs. 43000 and 50000 respectively.

    iPad

Speaking of new storage models, the iPad Pro lineup has been upgraded to same storage slabs as iPhone 7 – 32/128/256 GB. iPad Air 2 has also been a beneficiary of this new storage plan and both its — wifi and wifi+cellular — will be available in 32 GB as well as 128 GB versions.

More good news follows in terms of price cut.

The entire iPad Pro range of devices has seen a massive reduction in price. While these new prices are currently effective in the US only, we should see the discounts coming to India pretty soon. Here’s a snapshot of the revised prices:

    9.7-inch iPad Pro

    – 128GB: $699 (was $749)
    – 256GB: $799 (was $899)
    – 128GB with 4G/LTE: $829 (was $879)
    – 256GB with 4G/LTE: $929 (was $1,029)

    12.9-inch iPad Pro

    – 128GB: $899 (was $949)
    – 256GB: $999 (was $1,099)
    – 128GB with 4G/LTE: $1,029 (was $1,079)
    – 256GB with 4G/LTE: $1,129 (was $1,229)

Also, because Apple is offering a reduction in price and an increase in storage, for us, it’s essentially a DOUBLE DISCOUNT!!

NOTE: iPad mini 2 has not seen any change and will continue to be sold with the same configuration as before.

    Apple TV

The third generation Apple TV has been purged from Apple’s product page immediately after Wednesday’s ‘See you on Sept.7′ event. It has even been removed from the shelves in the Retail Stores. However, you can get them “on request” until the stock depletes. Some American Apple retailers such as Target and Best Buy claim to have not received any orders to pull the device off the shelf or lower the price to clear out inventory. According to the representatives of both the stores the device has had somewhat limited stocks for the last three months but they have never been entirely depleted. So we are waiting for some official announcement from Apple to confirm the news.

    Apple Watch

The latest Apple Watch is being called Series 2. The previous generation of Apple Watch has been rebranded as Series 1. However, your options are more than two.

Apple upgraded the processor on the previous Watch, and any Series 1 Watch manufactured now onwards will have this new, upgraded processor. However, there are those Apple Watches, already manufactured and shipped, which now sit in stores and warehouses, waiting to be sold. These are still Series 1 Watches, albeit with a slower processor.

So you have three choices in all:

    a) Apple Watch Series 1 (old) with the original processor,
    b) Apple Watch Series 1 (new) with the upgraded processor, and
    c) Apple Watch Series 2 (launched this month)

Last but not the least, we have some news for Apple watch users who are also Pokémon Go fans. The Pokemon Go app is coming to your Apple Watch soon, which will let you collect items from Pokestops, hatch eggs and also alert you when a Pokemon is nearby. But to catch a Pokemon, you would still need a phone. The watch is expected to be shipped before the end of this year.

With all these new changes, Apple fans can be assured that the last months of this year are going to be pretty eventful for them!
