Apple had high hopes for the iPhone Air—but unfortunately, those hopes went up in the air. While the device was an impressive design flex, it came at the cost of underwhelming features and a wallet-stretching price tag. Unsurprisingly, that combo didn’t exactly take off with consumers.
That said, Apple isn’t ready to let its thinnest iPhone drift away just yet. The company has reportedly delayed the launch of the iPhone Air 2, likely to give itself some breathing room to fix the very things that made the original such a tough sell.
Rumors suggest Apple is planning two major upgrades to make the Air 2 more appealing. First up: a second rear camera. Yes, apparently Apple realized that one camera in a premium phone just doesn’t cut it anymore. You can talk specs all day but a huge chunk of Apple’s fanbase sticks around for one reason—the camera. So charging more for a phone with a subpar camera setup was never going to fly.
Which brings us to the second rumored change: the price. According to reports, Apple may finally be considering a lower price point for the iPhone Air 2. Shocking, right?
Of course, the original iPhone Air had a few other issues too—like a single speaker, shorter battery life, and a handful of other compromises that felt less “innovative” and more “why though?” Hopefully, Apple will clear up those turbulences as well before reintroducing the Air line. If they get it right, the iPhone Air 2 might just make the landing its predecessor failed.
