iPhone users, if you’ve been cursing your service provider for the slow Internet you’ve been getting, we’ve got some news for you. The truth is, your treasured old device could be the reason why you lose your patience, making you not unlike a gentleman or a lady with a potty-mouth.

A recent study measured the 4G speed on every iPhone model, right from 5s to XS Max. They found that all old models up to iPhone 6 were approximately 10Mbps slower than the latest models. And if you have any one of these models, God be with you because you don’t have the money to burn on pricier-than-your-kidney iPhone models.

Moving on, the study by OpenSignal observed that there are three distinct groups based on the different models and their categories. According to their chart, Apple’s XS-class iPhones are 26% faster than the middle group iPhones 6s, 7, 8, X and XR and and a jaw-dropping 83% faster than the lowest group iPhones – 5s, SE, 6, and 6 Plus.

Although iPhone XS and XS Max models are marked LTE Category 16, and service providers market them as “gigabit LTE”, the speed is yet to be experienced in the real world. There’s also a discrepancy in the same category speed, where both iPhone XR and iPhone X are Category 12 LTE, but the latter enjoys a faster 4G speed.

Next up in the near future, 5G data speeds are all set to become a rage.  The question is, will you be equipped to enjoy that speed? Apple’s competitors have already announced 5G supported new smartphones, but the tech giant is yet to announce anything on this matter. Apple anyway tends to take its own sweet time to get on with things, and this time looks no different.

So, let’s just wait for whatever comes our way and hopefully, the owners of older iPhone models have the patience to keep holding on. Or the money to buy a newer handset.
