It’s time to say goodbye to another old but beloved Apple product, this time the 2012 MacBook Pro that was the first to feature a retina display.

This news comes merely a month after Apple added the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro to its list of obsolete Apple products. The news was first reported by MacRumors, through an internal memo acquired by them. Apple will reportedly be adding this model to this list on 30 June 2020, about eight years after its release.

Apple’s list of “vintage and obsolete devices” features obsolete devices that have been discontinued for more than seven years and vintage devices that haven’t been manufactured by them for more than five years but less than seven years.

This particular model had already been declared vintage in 2018, and will now be added to the obsolete list.

So, if you’re a proud (or otherwise) owner of the 2012 MacBook Pro that you still use but might have been giving you problems for a while, I’d suggest you stop your procrastination and take it to the nearest authorised store. That is, at least, if you want to get your Mac seen to by an official source before it’s declared obsolete. This also goes for any parts you might want for your MacBook, as they’ll probably be hard to find once this goes through.

It’s a good time to brush off the dust from my shelf and check on my first Apple MacBook ever, I suppose.

Of course, individual repair shops are always an option, but there’s no saying how much luck you might have with one. Make sure you go to a trusted store, at the very least!

Indian Apple fans, how do you feel about this news? Do you own any obsolete Apple products and, if so, how do you deal with the repairs? Talk to us in the comments below!
