From Apple’s transition to its silicon-based chips to the new features of iOS 14, WWDC 2020 was full of exciting details. However, one of the most significant announcements of the day was the release of Apple’s biggest MacOS update since OS X, the macOS Big Sur! Here’s a quick glimpse of what the new upgrade contains.

    It’s Elegant!

Named after California’s breathtaking mountain range, the macOS Big Sur is exactly what it was designed to be – elegant, new and yet familiar. With transparent title bar, stylishly cornered icons and refined buttons and controls, the OS upgrade seems to stress heavily on the importance of minimal yet impactful design, giving the UI an exquisite touch.

    It’s New!

Newer additions to the OS include updates to major apps like Safari and Guide, with Apple claiming a 50% increase in the speed of the upgraded browser! Safari also comes with even better tab management, making it a smoother experience altogether.

However, a surprising feature of the new macOS Big Sur includes a familiar notification and action centre (iOS users will get this in the first go). In addition to this, message conversations are getting a whole new touch, too. Now, if these are Apple’s subtle steps to integrate macOS and iOS in an even better way, we don’t know yet. But we can trust Apple to do what they do best.

Who can get their hands on the new macOS Big Sur?

Right now, Apple’s macOS Big Sur is available for MacBook (2015 and later), MacBook Air (2013 and later), MacBook Pro (late 2013 and later, Mac mini (2014 and later), iMac (2014 and later), iMac Pro (2017 and later) and the Mac Pro (2013 and later). Unfortunately, this means that the early 2013 MacBook Pro and lower models will not be getting the new macOS Big Sur.
