Using a titanium alloy frame is not new to Apple products. We’ve seen a few models of the Apple Watch, and the Apple Card (sold internationally) features titanium material. And now, as per the latest iPhone news, we might be seeing a titanium alloy frame in the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro model!

Titanium Frame Comes to iPhone 14 Pro

According to rumours, a titanium alloy material could be used in the iPhone 14 Pro variant. This will be the first time an iPhone will be available with a titanium frame. The stronger material will make the iPhone 14 Pro even more scratch and drop-resistant, besides offering a more premium model to Pro buyers.

Currently, all iPhones are made using stainless steel or aluminium frames. However, titanium alloy is as strong as stainless steel and around 45% lighter. Also, titanium has a relatively higher density than stainless steel, making the iPhone 14 Pro less prone to bending. If this rumour turns out to be true, we can expect the 2022 iPhone Pro model to be lighter than the current models on sale.

Titanium is also more resistant to corrosion in comparison to other alloy materials. However, the stronger alloy material has a few drawbacks. Oily fingerprint marks are more visible on titanium alloys, undoubtedly leaving unattractive marks on devices.

Another thing: Titanium alloys are difficult to etch, which will make them less attractive. But don’t lose heart. Apple being Apple is reportedly researching technologies to overcome the drawbacks of titanium alloy and make their forthcoming devices fingerprint-resistant. Apple might use a thin oxide coating to make their iPhone 14 Pro attractive.

Wait, There’s More in iPhone News!

Whether Apple will install the Touch ID sensor on the power button or go in for the in-display sensor is yet unknown. There’s a strong chance that Apple might reintroduce the Touch ID biometric unlock on the next iPhone models. Certain analysts believe that the Touch ID sensor might make a comeback with the 2021 iPhone 13 models.

If rumours are to be believed, no new iPhone mini is planned post-iPhone 13. Instead, the Cupertino company might offer two 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch variants in the 2022 line-up of the iPhone. This will make both the regular iPhone 14 and Pro models in the standard 6.1-inch and Max 6.7-inch display options. So, we can say goodbye to phones that actually manage to fit in our hands!
